Who the heck is Jimmy Barnes?

The first night, Wolfgang and I went into the main town of Broome which is called "Chinatown" for dinner. When we finished eating we walked up and down the town (which took us about 20 minutes).  We didn't really know what else to do so we called a taxi to take us back to the hostel. The taxi driver obviously could tell we were not from the area and insisted that we didn't spend our evening sitting in the hostel. He said we had to check to see if there were Jimmy Barnes tickets left at the local hotel. Of course Wolfgang had no idea who Jimmy Barnes was but neither did I. The taxi driver said he was super famous in Australia and that we should know his most famous song "Working Class Man". Didn't ring a bell. We decided to go see if there were any tickets left because it sounded like something to do. It turned out they still had some tickets so -$60 later Wolfgang and I were waiting to hear Jimmy Barnes.
The concert started with an opening band who just played cover songs such as ACDC. They were ok.. kind of a bad 80's band with bad hair.  It was fun because I at least recognized some songs.
When Jimmy Barnes came on, everybody went nuts! He is obviously very well known here. I asked Glynn later, who is Australian, if he knew who Jimmy Barnes was and he said "YES! He is like the Australian version of Bruce Springsteen." It looked like to me he was at least 60 and has probably been performing for a long time now. I'm pretty sure Wolfgang and I were the youngest people there. It was fun watching the old men and women think they can dance.
I'm not sure the concert was worth $60.. I didn't recognize even one of his songs.. but it was nice to not just sit in the hostel.
Here are a few pictures from the night.
