Oh How I Miss Doing Laundry at Home...

On Saturday morning, I decided it would be a good day to do laundry... Because I have to pay $1 for the washers and $1 for the dyers I am only doing laundry once every 2 weeks. Usually I like to do it once a week but I am doing a better job of wearing my clothes more than once before I wash them. In the previous weeks, I have had no problem finding an open washer or dryer... On Saturday though, I had washed 2 loads of laundry and when I went to transfer the clothes to the dryer I realized there was a line. There was at least 5 baskets of wet clothes waiting for the dryers. Does it make any sense that they would have 4 washers and only 2 working dryers? I couldn't believe it. So I decided that I would wait in the laundry room with my wet clothes and as soon as a dryer opened up I would throw my clothes in.. With 2 minutes to go.. 3 people came in and said they were ahead of me in line.. I was so frustrated. I then took my basket of wet clothes (which is a lot heavier than a basket of dry clothes) to my room. I didn't want my clothes to just sit in the basket wet, so I laid them around my room. I had wet clothes everywhere! I thought for sure, a dryer would be available after dinner.. yea right. I didn't finally get a dryer until Sunday afternoon...AND to make things worse, 1 of the 2 dyers stains our clothes. So basically there is only 1 working dryer for 4 washers. Grrrr... We have decided we are going to start going to a laundromat. I guess there is one pretty close to campus and we just need to figure out the bus route. What a pain! I took pictures of my room after I laid out my clothes to dry.

Fremantle Prison Tour

On Friday night, a group of us took a tour of the Fremantle Prison. The Freo Prison was built in the 1850's by convicts (like almost everything else in Au) and closed in 1991. Now they just use it for day, night, and tunnel tours. We were told that the prison is haunted so we took the Torchlight Ghost Tour. In many of my pictures you can see round "orbs" and the tour guide told us if we zoom in on these that we will see faces of ex-convicts. I zoomed in on a few of these "orbs" and I didn't see one face. Maybe 1 or 2 smiley faces, but I don't think that is what she meant. If you ask me its just the reflection from the flash caused by the lights, but what do I know? Haunted or not, we had a fun time and afterwards we went to the local brewery/restaurant "Little Creatures" for some food.
This is the front of the prison... There are a lot of orbs in this pic.

The prison's attempt at trying to scare us. I have to admit that I did scream... several times.

There were 44 (i think) people executed at the Fremantle Prison including 1 woman who poured acid down her kids throats.
One of the prison cells.
A few of the cells had paintings on the walls painted by convicts...

The entire group!
When we waiting for the bus back to Currie it was pouring rain. I tried to take a picture but all it looks like is a lot of little "orbs", I zoomed in and I still don't see any faces... o well..

More Pics of UWA

On Thursday after class I decided to take a walk around campus with my camera. It was a beautiful day and I think I took some great photos. Since coming here, I really enjoy taking pictures. I'm not a professional but I still have fun with it. Having a nice camera helps a lot (: I know it makes me look like a tourist but it's the only way I am going to document my experience here.

The Arts building where I have my Aboriginal History class.

The Arts building has several peacocks that hang around the quad. They basically own the building and are so funny to listen to during class.
Walking to class
I love the albino one.. I have never seen a white peacock
The library

I love this tree so much.
I think this is hilarious... These cockatoos are everywhere. I am used to seeing these birds as pets and it shocked me to see them in the wild. Somebody told me that the white cockatoo is on the endangered list here but I would have never guessed that since I see them everywhere, especially in Freo.
I liked this sign because it shows a few of the differences between here and home. Authorized is spelled Authorised (along with many of the words that are spelled with a "z") and the kilometers per hour instead of miles per hour.

Willie Wagtail

I hope this works.. I haven't tried uploading a video yet.
This is a video of a Willie Wagtail I saw on my way to class. Willie Wagtails are small black and white birds here in Perth. They get their name because when on the ground they always shake their tail feathers. It is the cutest thing ever. At first I thought they were doing a mating dance but I learned that shake like that all the time. I was a little disappointed of the performance of the one I video taped but he did dance a little for me. Some of them can't stop moving.. it's almost as if they have ADHD. They are my favorite birds here by far. Enjoy! Let me know if it doesn't play.

I Finally Tried Vegemite

I don't have a picture to post but tonight at dinner I decided to try Vegemite. All I have to say is that it is very very salty and the way that soiled towels smell is the way it tastes (it's a very musty taste). I'm not sure if that makes any sense but that is the best way I can describe it. It was very difficult for me to swallow my bite. I haven't gotten that desperate to the point where I will be making myself Vegemite sandwiches for dinner.

The Business Building

I finally brought my camera to the business building. Now everyone can see what I get to look forward to at the end of my mile walk everyday to class.
This is the front entrance of the business school
This is the side of the back entrance
The other side. Standing here you can see Matilda Bay
This is the inside. To the right is the coffee shop where I get discounts because I am a member of the "student guild".
It is strange because the ground floor is not considered the "first" floor. So when I was looking for my Finance tute in room 162, I was searching all through the ground floor. I eventually figured out I needed to go upstairs.

This is the Westfarmers lecture room. This is where I have my Management Accounting and Finance lectures.
Alaina, patiently waiting for class to start.
